Following intensified shelling in northwest Syria, the “Al-Jaafari” family lost their home entirely, placing them at risk of homelessness and unable to meet basic needs. Due to the deteriorating security situation, they lacked sufficient financial resources to adapt and began to feel hopeless.

The White Heart Association intervened after receiving a report about their situation and immediately launched an emergency response plan that included providing temporary shelter, food baskets, and essential non-food items such as blankets, bedding, and hygiene supplies. The response also included psychosocial support sessions for all family members to help them cope with the psychological trauma of loss.

Most importantly, the team worked to prepare the Al-Jaafari family for participation in a livelihoods program by training the head of the household in simple vocational skills that would enable him to secure a sustainable income. Within a few weeks, he was able to earn a small income selling handmade products in local markets, helping the family reduce its dependence on emergency aid.

Mrs. Najla from the family says: “We had lost hope for the future, but White Heart restored our sense of safety and confidence that life continues even after the hardest moments.” This story demonstrates how coordinated support—from material aid to psychological and skills development—can transform an entire family’s life toward stability and self-reliance.
